Smith was born in Hempstead, New York on March 2, 1971 to a father who lived in Long Island and a mother who resided in the Park Hill section of Clifton, Staten Island. Smith, better known by his stage name, Method Man, began to ascend in hip-hop during the early 1990s as rap group, Wu-Tang Clan, began to gain stardom. Around the same time, he started acting. He landed recurring roles in HBO's The Wire and Oz. In 2004, Method Man starred in the Fox sitcom Method & Red. However, after a short season, the show was put on hiatus and never returned to broadcast. He also appeared in Blue Bloods, The Breaks, and Rebel.
