DefCon, real name Rondell Stark, is a mentioned character in Power Book III: Raising Kanan. He is a renowned drug kingpin widely assumed to be Kanan Stark's father, when in reality he was gay and had paid Kanan's mother Raq Thomas to be his beard, with Kanan's other parent actually being Detective Malcolm Howard.

Biography[]

As noted by several characters, DefCon was a notorious drug lord who had a massive organization in New York. He had a brother Vernon who he was very close to, but who was unaware of his homosexuality.

At some point, he became affiliated with the Thomas siblings and started dating Raq, supposedly leading to the birth of their son Kanan, who later turned out to be Malcolm Howard’s son, a cop who was investigating DefCon. According to Raq, Def wanted to be sure she was loyal by keeping her out of the loop while she was pregnant with Kanan. In truth, DefCon was paying her to act as his cover to maintain his reputation. By the 1970s, DefCon was arrested and incarcerated.
