Power Book IV: Force

Season 2[]

Prime Video
Jenard parked his ambitions of academia and took the reins of one of Chicago’s largest crews. Buffeted by the benefits of Diamond being his brother and keeper, he took power of the organization with an unbridled ability of a CEO along with the wild energy to end anybody that crosses him.

Personality[]

His personality is a complex mix of ambition, insecurity, and cunning, making him a wild card in the Chicago drug game. Jenard resents his brother for two main reasons. First, he was forced into the gang life running CBI when Diamond went to prison, causing him to abandon his promising academic career. Second, he feels his achievements as CBI's interim leader for 15 years were overlooked upon Diamond's release. He craves validation but feels constantly overshadowed by his brother's reputation and presence. Despite his often impulsive and emotional actions, He is very smart and capable of playing the "long game". He ran CBI for years like a CEO and can think several moves ahead to manipulate situations to his advantage. Some viewers find his character inconsistent and see similarities to Dre from the original Power. While he is shown to be smart and cunning at times, his cowardly and hypocritical actions frustrate others. As a wild card, his actions are difficult to predict, as his motives can be a mix of calculated gain and emotional outburst. Despite his bravado, Jenard is not a "born gangster". A life of violence and crime seems to cause him stress and misery, suggesting he would have been happier following his academic ambitions. His frequent miscalculations and bad decisions reflect his unsuitability for the game. Jenard is not purely evil, citing instances where he shows positive traits. He has shown genuine grief over his father's death, hesitated to move against his brother, and even saved Tommy's life.

Biography[]

Past[]

Jenard initially had a different plan for his life, having wanted to go to college, but at 18 years old, following his brother Diamond's incarceration, he had to take over their organization after Diamond bequeathed his position to him, until Diamond's release fifteen years later.[2][1]

When he and Liliana tried to sell drugs together, he mostly attempted to sleep with her, but she rebuffed his advances, and he ended up owing her money.[2]

Season 1[]

During King of the Goddamn Hill, Jenard tells Diamond about how Tommy saved him and Vic in a warehouse and they sees Tommy in the shop the next day. Later on, Tommy and Diamond are both kidnapped by two members of Rojas' crew and forced to get them money within three hours. To ensure that Diamond and Tommy comply the Rojas cartel proceed to kidnap Jenard. They threaten to kill him if the drugs and money are not delivered by the end of the day. Eventually the pair succeed with Jenard being released as promised. At the end he is surprised when Tommy shows up at the shop outside the window to show that he has killed duck gangsters to kidnap them. He remarks on Tommy’s boldness to face gangsters higher up.

In This is Who We Are, he tasks D-Mac to watch Tommy Egan (who unknown to both is D-Mac's uncle) and is paid for the job. That night, he is told by D-Mac that he can't do the job and returns his money before leaving.

During Family Business, Jenard and the Flynn family kidnap JP Gibbs and called Tommy to tell him if he wants to see his brother again then he will give himself up. Jenard is surprised to learn that JP is actually Tommy's brother, before JP acknowledges him and tells him that when he tried to kill Tommy, he ended up shooting his son. Jenard is even more surprised to hear that JP is D-Mac's father, which in turn makes Tommy, the uncle of D-Mac, amusing him at making sense of everything.

Season 2[]

In No Loose Ends, Jernard comes to the shop when Diamond is questioned about the disappearance of his parole officer and quickly provides his brother with an alibi, though was shocked to later discover Diamond killed his PO on his trail. After Diamond was let off parole, he sought revenge against the person who ratted him and had Jenard track him and it was Jamal Franklin. The Sampson brothers kidnapped him and brought him a park. Jenard was angry by Jamal's defiance, threatening him with a gun but Diamond stopped him and deflected blame on Jamal's abuse. Jenard was amused by his brother getting enraged and dragging him to a lake. However, he started to get scared by Diamond drowning the now scared and pleading Jamal, while berating him for his pathetic nature until killing him. This scene left Jenard speechless at his brother's ruthless behavior.

In the finale, Jenard puts his plan to undermine Tommy into action by relaying to King Kilo that D-Mac killed his nephew and informing Miguel Garcia about Tommy's relationship with his sister. Afterwards, he and his lover sit back to watch the chaos unfold.
