Miriam Egan was a minor character in Season 1 of Power Book IV: Force. She was Tommy and JP's grandmother, as well as great-grandmother of D-Mac.

Biography[]

She was married to a Thomas Egan and they had at least one child a daughter named Kate.

At an unknown point, her husband died and she became estranged from her daughter for reasons unknown. However, Miriam was at least active in the lives of her grandsons. Miriam was apparently close to her oldest grandson JP who always visited her for six years. Tommy was later led to believe that Miriam was dead because of Kate cutting contact.

Kate mentions Miriam to Tommy, dismissively remarking that she wasn't much of a mother. Tommy remarked that the apple didn't fall too far after Kate proved herself no better.

Season 1[]

During A Short Fuse and a Long Memory, Tommy arrived in Chicago and visited her home, where he found out that she was still alive and in a retirement home. Tommy later went to the home and saw her from afar but backed out of approaching. Soon Tommy got the nerve and visited her, he showed her a picture of him when he was young, and she recognized him. She happily called his name, sharing a brief moment with him before slipping back into her daze. Tommy visiting her led to him discovering and meeting his brother JP.

In Outrunning a Ghost, JP told Tommy that Miriam had a stroke and she was in bad shape.

In He Ain't Heavy, JP visits her in the hospital while hoping she'll be alright. However, the second he left the room, she flatlined and the staff was unable to revive her, leading to her death. JP later told Tommy who was sadden that their grandmother died. At the end, JP called Kate to tell her about her mother's death.

  • She was the first relative Tommy found in Chicago.
  • It is unknown how or who was able to support her in the retirement home.
    • Both Tommy and JP were curious as to how Miriam was taken care of in the retirement home.
  • It is unknown if she suffered from Alzheimer’s or dementia, due to her reaction towards Tommy.
  • She never met her great-grandson Darnell who likewise was unaware of her.
  • Kate states she has money hidden in the walls of her home, though its unknown if that's true.
