The sections of a character article, in order, are explained below.

Chess icon

Small icons that appear above the name of the character. Each represent a role. They are added by putting in {{Top icon piecename}} anywhere in the article, with the name of the piece replacing "piecename".

{{Top icon king}} {{Top icon queen}} {{Top icon pawn}}

  • King - kingpin
  • Queen - queenpin
  • Pawn - soldier

Knight, Bishop, and Rook icons are reserved for Dru, Diana, and Cane Tejada, as they are described as being those pieces by Tariq.

Essential quote

A quote which captures the essence of the character, appearing at the very beginning of the article. Do not just add some random quote. It is best if the quote is said by the character themself, but a quote from another character is fine if it does not exist. Best way to determine which quote belongs is to see if it matches the article's overview.

What is appropriate:

I’ll be the biggest goddamn drug dealer in New York City.
― James[src]

What is not appropriate:

Have some sympathy, Tasha. I just the love of my life!
― James[src]

The quote is added by using the MainQuote template. Here is a sample code:

{{MainQuote|1=|2=|3=}}
  • Put after 1 the quote. In 2 the character who said it, first name only. In 3 the episode it is from. Example:
{{MainQuote|1=I’ll be the biggest goddamn drug dealer in New York City.|2=James|3=Best Laid Plans}}

Infobox

Infoboxes contain the image of the character as well as some facts about them. Editors should put this code after the Quote near the beginning of the article to add the infobox:

{{Infobox character
|image=
|portrayed by=
|created by=
|inspirations=
|full name=
|aliases=
|nicknames=
|occupation=
|status=
|confirmedage=
|confirmeddob=
|family=
|affiliations=
|enemies=
|relationships=
|seasons=
|first=
|last episode=
}}

Remember to use the br tag to list multiple examples. Also, put a cross (†) after the names of deceased characters.

  • Image - the image used for the character. What you type here is the file name of the image. Example: Ghost.jpg
  • Portrayed by - the actor/s who portray the character. Example: Omari Hardwick
    <br>
    Chris Sumpter (as young James)
  • Created by - creators of the character.
  • Inspirations - the people or characters who inspired the creators in the character's development. This information must have a referenced source.
  • Full name - put the character's full name on here if it has been revealed. An example for this is "Monet Stewart Tejada". If the character's full name has no middle name, and is just the same as the article title, do not put anything here.
  • Aliases - aliases are names the character assumes to either conceal their identity or to serve as an alternate name. Nicknames are not aliases. Example: Ghost
  • Nicknames - nicknames are different, specific names that other people call the character. Write who calls the character a specific nickname in parentheses. Example: Jamie (by Angela)
    <br>
    Ghost (by his family)
    • Pet names such as "honey", "baby", etc. are not considered nicknames.
  • Occupation - occupations are the character's livelihood (vocation), and/or activities that the character engages in to pass time (avocation). Example: Club owner
    <br>
    Drug lord
  • Age - This must include confirmed ages, with an explanation elsewhere in the article, usually the Trivia section, or as a footnote. If the age added has no explanation, it will be removed.
  • Birthdate - This lists confirmed birthdays, with an explanation elsewhere in the article, usually the Trivia section, or as a footnote. If the birthday added has no explanation, it will be removed.
  • Status - the character's status. Only put either Alive/Deceased/Unknown.
  • Family - put every confirmed family members on here.
    • What is considered family: biologically related family, adopted family, step family, half-family, in-laws, spouses. Put in order from eldest to youngest, and put in parentheses the relation to the character. Example: Tasha St. Patrick (wife)<br>Tommy Egan (adoptive brother)<br>Tariq St. Patrick (son)<br>Raina St. Patrick (daughter) †<br>Yasmine St. Patrick (daughter)<br>Estelle Green (mother-in-law)<br>Kate Egan (adoptive mother)<br>Curtis St. Patrick (father) †
  • Affliations - alliances and associations, not necessarily friendships. Put in the order they were formed. Example: Tommy Egan
    <br>
    Tasha St. Patrick (formerly)
    <br>
    Angela Valdes †
    <br>
    Andre Coleman (formerly) †
  • Enemies - Put in the order they became enemies. Example: Simon Stern (formerly)
    <br>
    Andre Coleman †
    <br>
    Tariq St. Patrick
  • Relationships (appears as Partners) - romantic/sexual relationships. Insignificant unnamed characters should not be put on here
    • put in parentheses the type of relation they had to the character. it's usually these:
      • wife/husband/spouse
      • girlfriend/boyfriend/partner
      • fling
      • lover
      • one-night stand

      Linda (one-night stand)
      <br>
      Ramona Garrity (lover)
  • Seasons - the show and seasons the character appears in, with links to their specific seasons.
    • Format: Name of show in italics: Number of season • Number of another season.
      • If the character only appears in one season, add "Season" along with the number to avoid confusion that the character appears in a certain number of seasons.
    • Example: Power: 123456
      • Power: 123456
    • Power: Season 1
  • First - link to the episode the character first appears in, in quotation marks. Example: "Not Exactly How We Planned"
  • Last episode - link to the episode the character last appears in, in quotation marks. Example: "No One Can Stop Me"

More on infobox images

  • Must be a half-body image, with their body facing to the front or side, but not to the back.
  • Should be their official image. However, other promotional images and screencaps are also fine, especially if the official image cannot be a half-body image facing to forwards or sidewards, or if an official image for the character does not exist.
  • Images must be in portrait and have a 2:3 aspect ratio. Exception is when the image looks off in that aspect ratio and there are no other available images. Official images in other aspect ratios are fine.
    • This is an example of a photo with a 2:3 aspect ratio.
  • Do not use unclothed images of the character for their infobox images. Topless images are only allowed when it is their only appearance, or if there are no other possible clear images to be used.
  • Examples of infobox images that fulfill these criteria are the Season 4 infobox images of Power Book II: Ghost's characters.

Overview

The overview is what the reader sees at the beginning of the article, besides the infobox. Its purpose is to be an easy-to-read yet informative introduction that entices readers to read the rest of the article, therefore it should be concise. It has no headings, and it contains a summary of the article, so in the case of character articles, who the character is. It only includes the most important parts.

1st paragraph

  • This paragraph consists of:
    • The name of the character in bold
    • The type of character and the series they appear in
      • Types of character according to importance: A main character belongs to any of these four categories: the protagonist (the lead who the story is about), the antagonist (one who opposes the lead), the deuteragonist (second most important character), and the tritagonist (least important main character). A supporting character is a significant character that is not main. A minor character is the least important character, only having a minor role within the story.
      • The main characters of the series are the ones whose actors appear in the title sequence. Supporting characters and minor characters are relegated to the closing credits.
      • To keep the overview concise and avoid it from being too wordy and detailed, stick to the type of character they generally and essentially have been throughout the series.
    • A short, one-sentence description of the character's general characterization within the series.
    • The actor that plays the character
  • The name that appears first and is in bold should be the full name of the character, with their nickname in quotation marks (""). Example: Thomas "Tommy" Patrick Egan
    • If the article title is their alias, make the alias appear first and mention their real full name afterwards. Example: Zion, real name Marcus Washington
    • If the article title is their real name but they have an alias, do the opposite. Usually it's "[real name], alias [alias]" (ex.: James St. Patrick, alias Ghost) but it can be written differently as seen below.

Example:

James St. Patrick is a major character in the Power Universe, serving as the protagonist of Power, and one of the two protagonists of Origins. James St. Patrick by day is the owner of renowned nightclub Truth, but by night, he is Ghost, a notorious drug lord. He is portrayed by Omari Hardwick.

2nd paragraph

  • A 2-4 sentence description (per series, if a main character) of who the character is
  • A summary of the article, so it encapsulates their personality, their trajectory, their background, and their most significant relationships, and all other relevant aspects in a single paragraph
  • Do not put too much detail; only write the most relevant parts
  • If the character is minor and everything about them can be summed up in the 1st paragraph, omit this paragraph.

Example:

A revered figure in the drug game, James is an elusive kingpin from humble beginnings who runs a major drug organization in New York, with best friend Tommy Egan and wife Tasha St. Patrick. The arrival of his long unseen first love, federal prosecutor Angela Valdes, furthers his desire to leave behind his criminal life in pursuit of legitimacy, which threatens and eventually shatters the family he built with the drug business. Despite several setbacks, James achieves his dream as he becomes New York's Lieutenant Governor, but not without personal losses, including the deaths of Angela and his daughter with a now estranged Tasha, Raina. His rise to the top is ended when he meees his demise at the hands of his son, Tariq, who was influenced by James's former criminal associate Kanan Stark, and was motivated by his frustration with his father's dishonesty.

The overview in a nutshell:

  • 1st paragraph
    • Name in bold
    • Type of character
      • According to importance: protagonist/antagonist, deuteragonist, tritagonist, supporting character, minor character
    • A short one-sentence description capturing the character's essential aspect, who they are in general
  • 2nd paragraph
    • 2-4 sentence summary of the character's trajectory, personality, background, and most important relationships
