Power Universe Wiki
Power Universe Wiki

The wiki requires editors to reference their sources to ensure that all information is accurate. Therefore, any information claimed included here must be verifiable, through official/reliable sources, to avoid misinformation.

This is a guide on referencing sources. The wiki recommends the editor use source mode instead of visual mode when adding references. To have the editor default to source, change the "preferred editor" on preferences accordingly; read this to learn how.

How to reference sources

To reference sources, put the source inside the <ref></ref> tags in the source editor, or use the button in the toolbar labeled "CITE" in the visual editor. For more information, read this article.

Types of citations

This is what the editor would put inside the ref tags in source mode. More types of citation templates will be added in the future.

Cite web

{{cite web |url= |title= |accessdate= |last= |first= |author= |date= |work= | archiveurl= |archivedate= |quote= }}

This is used for referencing websites.

  • url - the URL of the website, as shown in the address bar. Example: https://starzpower.fandom.com
  • title - the title of the article, or the title shown in the title bar.
  • last - last name of the author.
  • first - first name of the author.
  • author - for multiple authors. (seperated by , and/or &)
  • date - the date the article or page was published. (format: Month Day, Year)
  • work - the name of the publication or website. Example: Power Universe Wiki
  • archiveurl - url of Wayback Machine archived page. (optional)
  • archivedate - date of Wayback Machine archival. (optional)
  • quote - specific quote from the referenced page that supports the information. (optional)

Cite episode

{{Cite episode |title= |episodelink= |series= |serieslink= |credits= (writer), (director) |network= |airdate= |season= |number= }}

This is used for referencing episodes. Use this on mentions of certain events in a series.

  • title - the episode title. Example: The Stranger
  • episodelink - the name of the episode's article. Ex.: The Stranger
  • series - the name of the series. Ex.: Power Book II: Ghost
  • serieslink - the name of the series's article. Ex.: Power Book II: Ghost
  • credits - names of the writer/s and director/s. Ex.: Courtney A. Kemp (writer), Anthony Hemingway (director)
  • network - the network of the series. Ex.: STARZ
  • airdate - the episode's release date. Ex.: September 6, 2020
  • season - season number. Ex.: 1
  • number - episode number. Ex.: 1

The example

{{Cite episode|title=The Stranger|episodelink=The Stranger|series=Power Book II: Ghost|serieslink=Power Book II: Ghost|credits=Courtney Kemp (writer), Anthony Hemingway (director)|network=STARZ|airdate=September 6, 2020|season=1|number=1}}

would result in:

"The Stranger". Courtney A. Kemp (writer), Anthony Hemingway (director). Power Book II: Ghost. STARZ. September 6, 2020. 1x1.

Put inside ref tags, it should look like this:

<ref>{{Cite episode|title=The Stranger|episodelink=The Stranger|series=Power Book II: Ghost|serieslink=Power Book II: Ghost|credits=Courtney A. Kemp (writer), Anthony Hemingway (director)|network=STARZ|airdate=September 6, 2020|season=1|number=1}}</ref>
[1]

The reference should also appear at the end of the article, like this:

Referencing sources more than once

Read this to learn how to reference a particular source more than once without repeating them.

On unsourced information

Information without references should not be removed immediately unless it is egregious. The editor should either mark it with {{Fact}} ([citation needed]), or provide a reference to it.

To mark information that needs a reference, put {{Fact}} at the end of the sentence or the last sentence:

Tariq St. Patrick was born in October 2002.{{Fact}}

Which should result in:

Tariq St. Patrick was born in October 2002.[citation needed]

Exceptions

Character descriptions do not need to be referenced since they use the template {{Character description source}}, which indicates where the description came from. However, synopses may need a reference despite using {{Synopsis source}}, especially on series and season synopses, which are usually sourced from publications that publish official synopses provided by Starz, and therefore needs a specific link.

Also, the overview of the article (the beginning without headings) usually does not need citations as it is already a summary of the article. Similarly, plot summaries of episodes on their respective articles have no references too.

Trivia that analyzes events in the Power Universe can also not be sourced, as long as the events themselves include a citation to the episode they are from, and the trivia uses the phrases "likely", "possibly", etc.

Self-evident information can also not be sourced.
